Privacy Policy
Walk the World Last updated: 7 September 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Walk the World mobile application (the "Application"), provided by Lanchas Dev (the "Service Provider"). Contact: lanchasdev@gmail.com
The Application counts your steps and can trace a real walk with GPS. Both of those are sensitive, so the important sentence comes first: your step count and your location are processed entirely on your device and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics in the Application.
1. Steps and motion
The Application asks for permission to read motion and fitness data so it can count your steps automatically, which is what makes your journey advance. The step count is read from the pedometer built into your device, used on the device to move you along the route, and stored on the device.
It is not sent anywhere. We do not receive your step count, and there is no server that could hold it.
2. Location — the Live Walk
The Live Walk feature is optional and asks for location while in use. When you start one, the Application follows your position to measure the distance you cover and to draw the shape of your walk.
Two details are worth stating exactly, because they are the whole answer to "who can see where I walked":
- Your coordinates never leave the device. They are used in memory to add up distance and to draw a line. When the walk ends, what is saved is the result — how far, how long, how many steps — not the path, and not the coordinates.
- The Live Walk is not drawn on a map. Your route is drawn as a plain line on a blank grid, deliberately. Drawing it on a real map would mean asking a map server for the tiles around wherever you happen to be, which would tell that server your approximate location. The Application does not do that. No map service is contacted while you walk.
Location is only read while a Live Walk is running and the Application is in use. There is no background tracking. If you decline the permission, everything except the Live Walk works exactly the same.
3. Network activity
The Application has no server of ours, no accounts, no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash reporting. It makes three kinds of request, all of them to fetch content about the fixed, imaginary routes shipped with the Application — the same for every player, and unrelated to where you are:
- Map tiles for the virtual routes, from CARTO and Esri. The tiles requested are those of the famous trail you are progressing along, at the point your avatar has reached. They are decided by your progress in the game, not by your position in the world.
- Landmark photos and summaries, from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, under the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy. The request contains the name of the landmark article and an identifying user agent, as Wikimedia's policy requires.
As with any request over the internet, those services see the IP address the request comes from. They receive nothing else about you: no identifier of ours, no step count, no GPS coordinates, no progress. If you would rather they saw nothing at all, the Application still runs offline — the routes and the game work; only the photos and the satellite view will be missing.
4. What the Application stores, and where
Your progress, steps, streaks, avatar, squad, food challenges, referral code, settings and language are written to your device's own storage and stay there. There is no cloud save, no leaderboard server and no copy held by us. Deleting the Application deletes all of it, permanently and with no way for us to restore it.
5. Sharing and invitations
When you share a card or an invitation, the Application composes an image or a message and hands it to your device's own share sheet. Nothing is sent until you choose a recipient, and it goes to whatever app you picked, not to us. The invitation text contains a link that includes your referral code; that link is a plain web address and is only transmitted if and when you send the message. We receive nothing when someone opens it.
6. Permissions in full
- Motion and fitness / physical activity — to count steps. Optional; without it you can still add walks manually.
- Location while in use — for the Live Walk only. Optional.
- Notifications — reminders and streak alerts, scheduled on the device. The Application obtains no push token and there is no notification server, so we cannot send you anything. Optional.
The Application does not ask for the camera, the microphone, your contacts, your photos or your health records, and it does not read your advertising identifier.
7. Health data
Step counts can say something about your health, so we treat them as sensitive even though we never receive them. The Application does not read from or write to Apple Health or Google Health Connect. It reads the raw pedometer, on the device, and keeps the result on the device.
8. Data retention and deletion
- We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. There is no record of you on any system of ours.
- Delete everything on iOS: delete the Application from the Home Screen or from Settings → General → iPhone Storage.
- Delete everything on Android: Settings → Apps → Walk the World → Storage → Clear data.
- Revoke a permission at any time: Settings → Privacy & Security on iOS, or Settings → Apps → Walk the World → Permissions on Android. The Application keeps working with less.
- Support emails. If you write to us, your message and address are kept for at most 6 months, unless a legal obligation requires longer.
9. Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority — in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (www.aepd.es).
Honestly: there is nothing here to exercise them against. Your steps and your walks are on your phone, we hold no record of you, and the only personal data we could ever have is an email you chose to send us. Deleting the Application erases everything else.
10. Children's privacy
The Application is intended for a general audience and collects nothing from anyone, children included. If a parent or guardian has a concern, write to lanchasdev@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Changes take effect when the revised version is posted, with a new "Last updated" date.
